Bypass roadworks to close westbound lane for three weeks of resurfacing

Drivers are being warned to expect delays as a three-week programme of resurfacing begins on the westbound carriageway of the Halstead bypass, replacing a stretch of road that has deteriorated badly over recent winters.

The council says the work is overdue, with the surface breaking up and potholes reopening almost as fast as they can be filled. Crews will work overnight where possible to reduce disruption during the day.

How the works will run

A temporary diversion will route westbound traffic through the town centre during the busiest phases, which is likely to add to congestion around the market square.

  • Overnight lane closures with a signed diversion
  • A reduced speed limit through the works for the full period
  • Weekend working to bring the completion date forward

The council has urged patience and asked drivers to allow extra time, particularly during the school run and the evening peak. Bus operators have been notified and warn some services may run late while the diversion is in place.
