The annual Halstead harvest fair returns to the recreation ground this weekend, with organisers promising a bigger event after last year’s washout forced an early finish.
The fair, run entirely by volunteers, has become one of the busiest dates in the town’s calendar. This year’s programme leans on the reliable favourites while adding a larger produce tent for allotment growers keen to show off their onions and marrows.
What’s on this year
Gates open mid-morning and entry remains free, with a bucket collection in aid of the community minibus fund.
- Produce and baking competitions with public judging
- Live music from local bands through the afternoon
- The return of the inter-village tug-of-war
- Craft and food stalls from across the valley
Organisers are still looking for a handful of volunteers to help with setting up on Saturday morning and clearing the field at the end of the day. Anyone able to lend a hand is asked to arrive at the pavilion from eight o’clock.
